History is constantly causing cultural change. While we often argue about the nature of culture and what truly traditional is, in fact culture is evolving, and people are accumulating life experience.
'You don't belong to the village. Although you do a lot of Puyuma things, my Puyuma and your Puyuma are not the same. A lot of things we take to the grave with us.... But you shouldn't be unhappy, because, when I was young, your great-grandmother told me the same thing I am telling you now.'
